In honor of Turkey Day, I thought I would share one of my favorite weeknight meals. Turkey Sliders with Plum Ketchup. These small flavor- packed burgers are a sweet and savory winner with everyone in the family. They can be grilled or cooked on the stove, either way it is the stuffing that makes them moist and juicy when they are done! Trying to keep the burgers from drying out is what makes us shy away from adding them to our menus. I found that adding shredded carrots and a little extra virgin olive oil to the ground turkey helps keep the meat moist during grilling/cooking and adds a little vegetable into the mix!
The plum ketchup comes from an article I read about Gwyneth Paltrow where she mentioned putting some plum jam in her kids ketchup for her burgers and they loved it. I tried it and found it adds a real depth of flavor and goes perfectly with the turkey burger. Some lovely heirloom tomato, sweet grilled onions and fresh lettuce from the garden or market, a dollop of plum ketchup and you have a wonderful burger. Serve it with sweet potato fries and veggie sticks and you have a complete meal in no time.
