Psst. Dads and kids. Listen up. Mother’s Day is Sunday. What does Mom really want?
I’ll tell you what I want. A hotel room to myself. A book, a deep bathtub, room service. No phone calls unless there’s an emergency – and not being able to locate a child’s blankie does not qualify as an emergency. A full twelve hours of sleep.
Will that happen? Doubtful. But you know what? I’d also be perfectly happy to not have to cook, at least for one meal.
If you’re looking for a way to pamper the mother(s) in your life,
Breakfast in Bed
First thing – let mom sleep in a bit if she wants…THEN surprise her with breakfast in bed. Breakfast in bed isn’t as awesome if you’re eating it half awake at 5:30 in the morning.
On the menu?
Whole Wheat Chocolate Cherry Muffins, fresh fruit, Honeyed Yogurt Fruit Dip, coffee or tea – or mimosas!
Fancy Schmancy Dinner
If you choose to stay in, make mom something special. And for the love of God, do the dishes. I mean I shouldn’t have to say that, but just in case. Mom does not lift a finger in the kitchen on Mother’s Day…got it? Good!
On the menu?
Simple Cioppino, crusty bread, a big green salad and Dirt Cake! You might be all DIRT CAKE!? Stick with me here. Kids will totally want to get in on this and help create this fun and simple dessert for mom. And it really is delish, promise!
Happy cooking and Happy Mother’s Day to all the mommies, grandmas and mother figures out there! You rock!
