We have tacos at least once a week. Honest – we really have Taco Tuesday in this house. In other words, I use a ton of taco seasoning. So if I were buying those little packets at the store at a dollar (or more) a pop? It would definitely add up.
Making taco seasoning from scratch is so cinchy and tastes so much better, you’ll wonder why you waited so long to try it (I sure did!). You won’t miss all the sodium, because the spices are so fragrant and delicious. (I am obsessed with cumin. It’s kind of getting out of hand).
The best place to find inexpensive spices is either in the bulk section of your market, or in the ethnic foods section. Pretty much every spice you’ll find in this mix is in the Hispanic foods section.
I like to make a big batch and store it in an airtight container. Use this mixture in your taco meat, or try it in our Sneaky Cheesy Taco Macaroni, our Hearty Taco Casserole or our Quick and Easy Taco Soup! I promise – once you try this, you’ll never go back to packaged taco seasoning. True story.
- Like a smoky flavor? Swap out the regular chili powder for chipotle chili powder.
- Not spicy enough? Add cayenne to taste!
