Coffee is one of my most favorite things in the entire world. I love the smell, the taste, the way the warm cup feels in my hands in the morning. I will drink it black, but I usually pour in some creamer. You know, the stuff in the plastic bottle that’s flavored like Oreo Birthday Cake Caramel Baileys. Okay, I usually go for vanilla. Or hazelnut.
But I’ve been more cognisant of what I’m putting into my body lately and a few weeks back I turned the bottle around and checked the label and oh my actual lord. Check it out:
WATER, SUGAR, PARTIALLY HYDROGENATED SOYBEAN AND/OR COTTONSEED OIL, AND LESS THAN 2%OF SODIUM CASEINATE (A MILK DERIVATIVE)**, NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, MONO- AND DIGLYCERIDES, DIPOTASSIUM PHOSHATE, CELLULOSE GEL, COLOR ADDED, SALT, CELLULOSE GUM, CARRAGEENAN.CONTAINS: A MILK DERIVATIVE
Ummm. What the heck? And EWWWWWWW.
So I could just put half and half in my coffee, but I do enjoy the taste of flavored creamer. So I decided to make my own homemade coffee creamer. Dairy free, processed sugar free, and gunk free.
It makes your coffee creamy and delicious. It’s velvety. It’s just sweet enough.
Make some. You can change around the flavor by leaving out the spice and just going for plain vanilla. Or you could add almond extract in lieu of vanilla.
Then? Throw it in the fridge. Use it like you use the other stuff. But feel good that you can pronounce all the ingredient AND you know what they are! Coffee bliss!
